Edward Simon
American Smooth
Edward Simon is a United States Professional Smooth Champion, coach, and choreographer. He won the 1996 U.S. National title with Michelle Officer, and a lot of the American Smooth you see now still traces back to that floor.
He grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and built his career in New York. He is a co-owner of Dance New York. He has organized the New York Dance Festival and the Empire State Dance Sport Championships, and he still goes home to coach and to run the Iowa Dancesport Challenge. Students will know the PBS Championship Ballroom Dancing broadcasts. He guest-choreographed two routines on So You Think You Can Dance, Season 4.
At Big Apple Ballroom he comes in as a visiting coach — partnering, movement, and the kind of floor craft that reads from the cheap seats. He is on the coaching team for Rerun: Don’t Touch That Dial.
