Gretchen started the week off with Smooth. This was her second comp at the Open level and she made a big improvement in bringing the intensity level up. This was true in all dances but especially in foxtrot where she got a feel for the “jazz-trot” variations
Mercedes put together a stellar performance in the Latin. As happens sometimes, she was even more slick and on time at the comp when there was no chance to think about technique or what went right and wrong. In practice the fast dances are too fast to think through but with all that attention to detail in practice it just comes out at speed.
Jerry hadn’t been on the Latin floor for a while, having take some time off to concentrate on his Smooth. The break didn’t show at all. Whether it was the Smooth or the way Vanda works on constructing his movement through rhythmic action over static poise, he showed a huge improvement in the finish of his actions.
Sheryl debuted her new cabaret piece with a spot on performance. It was great to have a chance to prepare the show before Ohio. She totally stayed in character from beginning to the end (looks like she had enough of Michael).
