Constitution State Challenge

Evgeny and Inna made such a warm and inviting atmosphere for the competitors, for us, starting on Thursday night for Nightclub. Heidi made use of a bunch of her new moves in Salsa and West Coast Swing. Gary and Vanda came out to cheer us on over beer and pierogis. 

Gary Started off Friday’s Smooth dancing. He’s made big strides in maintaining poise and the hold. He also had a brand new Viennese Waltz which was a huge upgrade in complexity from his first few comps. Sometimes when you get thrown in the water that’s the quickest way to learn how to swim (not recommending that for actually learning to swim, btw).

Heidi made her upgrades in shaping to make fuller, more natural transitions between figures. At the Silver level her movement has been increasing necessitating more shape to balance (e.g. super crazy twinkles) It paid dividends in a first place championship win and a third in the scholarship.

David and Miki traded placements through the day with the couple they were competing with, but as in all places we are really in competition with ourselves. They both showed huge improvement in linear swing, moving through the empty space. That made a big difference in their pivots. Miki also won a top student award for her placements through the weekend with both David and her pro-am teacher George.

Sophia capped the weekend off with her new Theater Arts piece. It’s been quite a journey of editing and practicing this routine through music and choreographic changes, but I think it was worth the wait. This is by far the most complex work we’ve done, and it earned a second place in the cabaret championship.
